With the COVID-19 crisis forcing many industries into standby mode, the question of which industries are recognised as essential by national governments has been thrown into the limelight. Pest management remains vitally important to maintain proper hygiene standards, ensure food supply and protect the health of the most vulnerable. This must be recognised as such by the authorities.
Several European governments, including Italy and Northern Ireland, have already confirmed that they will allow pest managers to continue their essential work throughout lockdown.
CEPA is calling on all relevant authorities to formally recognise the essential role played by pest management across Europe, and underlining the potential serious consequences of a failure to act now.
